Barrow

CH2MHill Polar Services (CPS) has been tasked by the National Science Foundation (NSF) with supporting ship to shore and local operations in Barrow, Alaska as it relates to US Coast Guard (USCG) icebreakercruises. Other federal agencies are purchasing these support services for their cruises through NSF. Barrow information: lodging, food and transportation options with phone numbers

CPS proceeds with the following assumptions:

  1. All of the CPS port call support will be in Barrow
  2. Most of the support will be via a subcontract with UMIAQ
  3. CPS is responsible to provide logistical support for all research participants of the ice breaker
  4. Cruises regardless of affiliation. CPS support can only be as effective as the details provided in advance allow. At least three week advance notice is needed to arrange most support, however every effort will be made to adjust if needs change
  5. All of the CPS port call support will be in Barrow
  6. Spontaneous requests for support will be pending approval and available resources
  7. CPS will only provide support to USCG vessels, or those vessels with previously authorized arrangements through NSF.
  8. USCG will make arrangements and cover the costs associated with food and lodging of their personnel while in Barrow

Flying to Dutch harbor

Flying in and out of Dutch Harbor is routinely delayed due to weather.   If you plan to travel with a checked bag to Dutch via commercial airline, you might consider pre-shipping your bag to Dutch so that it does not get delayed and left behind.  You can use the agents listed below, or another viable option is to ship general delivery (up to 70 lbs) to the US post office.  They can only release the parcel to the person on the address.  Do not use Healy in the address.
