Healy can receive SAR Radarsat images and other satellite images for ice reconnaissance from the National Ice Center. Radarsat imagery is expensive and coverage is latitude dependant. A significant amount of planning is required, therefore the Chief scientist will need to provide the following:
- Proposed cruise track- email to Science Liaison months in advance of cruise
- Plan of intended Movement (PIM)- daily lat long positions.
- JPG (or similar) with cruise track plotted on a map
- needed during the cruise
- daily predicted lat long (one point or four corner box) for 96 hours, 1 week and 2 weeks ahead. Provided daily to Healy OPS officer.
