In addition to the Terascan system on board Healy which provides Real-time satellite imagery of weather and sea ice conditions, Healy can receive SAR Radarsat images and other satellite images for ice reconnaissance from the National Ice Center. Radarsat imagery is expensive and coverage is latitude dependant. A significant amount of planning is required, therefore the Chief scientist will need to provide the following:
Proposed cruise track- email to Science Liaison months in advance of cruise
- Plan of intended Movement (PIM)- daily lat long positions.
- JPG (or similar) with cruise track plotted on a map
needed during the cruise
- daily predicted lat long (one point or four corner box) for 96 hours, 1 week and 2 weeks ahead. Provided daily to Healy OPS officer.
